Fiji hopes to access more funds from the Pacific Environment Community Fund to install solar panels in rural areas.
The Fund is more than a 120 million dollars commitment by the Japanese Government through the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat for the Pacific Island Countries to set up a solar power generation system and desalination plants.
Fiji was given close to 4 million dollars for the solar projects and more than 3 million dollars for the set up of a desalination plant in 2012.
More than 1000 rural homes have been installed with the solar panels while 7 desalination plants have been set up throughout the country.
Meanwhile Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat is content with the projects carried out by Fiji.
