Representatives of different sporting organisations in the country came together today for the Fiji Sports Commission conference at the Holiday Inn in Suva.
Today’s deliberations were centered on good governance in sports and how it should transcend into the performance of athletes.
Assistant Mininster for Sports Iliesa Delana used the ocassion to remind the participants of the important role they play.
‘We as sports administrators are expected with all the resources entrusted to us to ensure that our athletes get the maximum results.Good governance in sport is a prerequisite for sport to fully serve it’s role as a vehicle of positive values which contribute to personal development and the bringing together of people’,Delana said.
Delana added ensuring good governance in sport is everyone’s responsibility.
‘We must ensure that through collaboration and sharing best practice, we all work towards bringing positive outcomes for sport and good governance is the system by which organizations are directed and managed’, Delana said.
The Sports Ministry has been allocated $16.9 million for next year by the government.
