The European Investment Bank is expected to provide up to $80 million to support the Fiji Urban Water Supply and Wastewater Management Project.
Aside from costs going toward contingencies,16 point 64 million will go towards the Kinoya Wastewater Treatment plant upgrade, while $11.4 million will go towards the new Rewa River water intake.
A total of 277,000 people are expected to benefit from the upgrade of the Kinoya Wastewater treatment plant.
Among the Wastewater treatment works to be carried out are the construction of new treatment facilities – namely two primary sedimentation tanks, a carbon and nutrient removal facility, a new digester and an upgrade of the sludge dewatering plant.
31 existing wastewater pumping stations will also undergo upgrades.
Around 18 kilometers of wastewater trunk mains are expected to also be replaced and relined.
$11.64 million is to co-finance the construction of the proposed new Rewa river water intake, which will also take away the sole dependence on the Waimanu River system for water supply to the Greater Suva Area.
EIB is providing the proposed $80 million as a loan with similar terms and conditions as ADB, that of a 20 year repayment term, including a grace period of 5 years and an annual interest rate determined in accordance with ADB’s London inter bank offered rate (LIBOR)
The EIB is co-financing the $222 million planned Fiji Urban Water Supply and Wastewater Management Project along with the ADB, Green Climate Fund and the Fijian Government.
