Vodafone Fiji rugby 7s coach Ben Ryan was dissapointed after Fiji’s win over New Zealand in the Dubai 7s semifinals last week.
Speaking to world rugby media Ryan says the national side did not show the All Blacks 7s the respect they deserve after the match.
‘I don’t think we showed New Zealand as much respect after the whistle in the semis certainly that’s not what I’m about,I don’t think any of my management or our team should be about I look at the New Zealand team about 4 to 5 years ago when they had that 47 game winning run this team has the potential to do that,’Ryan said.
Ryan believes Fiji cannot emulate New Zealand’s success if they continue to disrespect their opponents especially off the field.
‘That’s not gonna happen if they continue to get just a little bit carried away with themselves so I love a lot of our boys to death I would do a lot for them but I think they need to get a bit of respect.Like a coach, birds and worms eye view, I think they a little worms at the moment they need to a birds eye view and see perhaps other people might be talking about them now, we need to earn a bit of respect off the field next week,’the national coach added.
Fiji begins their Cape Town 7s campaign against Scotland at 9:59pm on Saturday.
