Good news for rugby fans as Semi Kunatani will join the Vodafone Fiji 7s training squad next Tuesday.
Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan has confirmed Kunatani will be in the country next week and he will be in contention for a spot at the Wellington 7s.
The France based player will arrive in the country next Monday.
‘Semi Kunatani is coming back so that’s good news for you guys, he’ll be leaving on Saturday from France and arrives in Fiji on Monday,’Ben Ryan said
Ryan has been in contact with the player dubbed as ‘The Beast’.
But this does not mean that Kunatani will earn automatic selection for the Wellington and Sydney 7s.
‘We’ll see what sort of shape he is in but I’ve been in communication with him and he’ll have 10 to 12 days with the team before Wellington and we’ll see whether he is in the mix for selection because the competition is still high and there’s no guarantee I’m gonna select him,’Ryan said.
If selected, Kunatani will be on offer but he’s not the only player gunning for Viliame Mata’s spot as Nemani Nagusa and Sevuloni Mocenacagi have impressed the national coach too.
‘Kunatani offers some good flexibility we can play in the backline and forwards Viliame Mata is out,Semi’s coming in, Nagusa is getting fitter everyday,Sevuloni is getting better and there will be one or two others I will be watching in the Coral Coast 7s,’Ryan added.
Meanewhile, Semi Kunatani last played for Fiji at the London 7s during the 2014 and 2015 world series season.
