Farmers in Rakiraki whose sugarcane farms were damaged by Yaqara Pastoral Company Limited livestock have been compensated.
Attorney General and Minister for Public Enterprises Aiyaz Sayed – Khaiyum handed over compensation cheques to the farmers yesterday.
These are some of the 109 farmers who were given compensation cheques by the Attorney General and Minister for Public Enterprise Aityaz Sayed – Khaiyum.
The compensation ranged from 100 to 11 thousand dollars.
The proper assessment of damage to the crops was done by Fiji Sugar Corporation.
Sayed – Khaiyum said after assessments were carried out , 5 farmers will not get compensated as they do not have any crops.
Some of the damage were also caused by the wild cattle in the area.
The Attorney general has also called on the farmers to work with Yaqara Pastoral.
