Attorney-General and Minister for Civil Service, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said that this should clear a lot of issues between government and trade union.

“We look forward to this mission. In fact we welcome the mission because our biggest agenda is to make sure that we have economic growth rate in Fiji, make sure we reduce poverty level and to make sure we create and sustain jobs in lives”

The Attorney-General also cleared the air on laws pertaining to the unions and bargaining units.

He adds that the Employment Relations Advisory Board must be inclusive in terms of addressing issues concerning workers’ rights and ensure that they have the ability to join any trade union or bargaining unit that appeals to them.

“As we look forward the real position in Fiji is this. You can join a trade union, you can join more than one trade union.”If you are in a bargaining unit, you can be a member of a bargaining unit and you can also be a member of a union in the market”

The ILO Tripartite Mission arrives in the country tomorrow.
