Fiji beat Shenua 1-0 finishes Spain tour

u23Fiji U23 side ended its Spain tour on a high note beating Shenua Shanghai 1-0 at CF Cracks Academy ground in Valencia, Spain.

Striker Rusiate Matarerega scored the lone goal in the 36 minute after receiving a long ball from goalkeeper Tevita Koroi.

The Alvin Singh captained side after going down 1-4 against the Castollen FC yesterday gave an impressive performance against the third division Chinese club.

Coach Frank Farina was pleased with the much improved performance by the players in the game.
“Honestly I am very pleased with the team’s performance today, “said Farina.

“The players gave their best shot and finished the tour on a high note and that shows they have learnt a lot.

The opponents have been here for more than two years now and been enjoying the football atmosphere for that long”, said former Socceroo striker.

Farina said we could have won with better goal margin but our players’ loss concentration and lack finishing.

“I have to work a lot on the finishing aspect of the team as we have good strikers but they need more game time and training.

“I am sure everyone has learnt a lot in the six games we played and I must thank the players for their effort.

Farina said the matches we lost or have drawn was because of simple mistakes and today there was no mistake so it came our favor.

“We made less mistake and kept possession and structure, so the result is there, “said Farina.

The Olympians on a six match tour lost 2-0 against Levante United in the first match, drew against Hercules FC 1-1 in the second, in the third match the side were held 2-2 against CF Cracks,in the fourth match Villarreal defeated Fiji 3-0, the fifth match show Fiji going down 4-1 against Castellon FC.

The team returns back on Monday via Korean Airlines at Nadi International Airport
