Dr Thomas Vincent Hickie is now the Commissioner of the Independent Legal Services Commission.
Dr Hickie was sworn into office by President, Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konousi Konrote.
Dr Hickie has a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia together with a Practical Legal Training Course from the Law Society of NSW.
Dr Hickie also completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at the UNSW and pursued further education with certificates in Mediation Training and in Sports Administration.
He was admitted as a member of the NSW Bar and called to the Bar of England and Wales (Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn).
Dr Hickie has previously served in Fiji as a Puisne Judge in the High Court of Fiji and as a Justice at the Fiji Court of Appeal from 2008 until 2009 whereby he presided over major cases including judicial reviews.
During his time in Fiji, he was also a visiting fellow at the University of Fiji as an honorary lecturer in the “Introduction to Law” and “Criminal Law and Procedure” units.
Dr Hickie has been a visiting lecturer and fellow at various universities including at his alma mater in UNSW.
