As the Category 5 cyclone prepares to make landfall this hour on Viti Levu, in the capital city it was a dash to the markets to take advantage of fresh produce.
The Agriculture Ministry says as if often the case when cyclone hit, the public should expect a major shortage of fresh produce in the weeks following the cyclone.
Bearing that in mind, many turned out in numbers to buy what they could ahead of the impending cyclone.
The Ministry also forecasting that as a direct result of any likely shortage, this could also impact prices upwards.
Not surprisingly, this was the scene at Suva’s Municipal Market this morning as many took advantage of the available seafood and produce knowing full well that it may take a few weeks before they can come across such abundance of produce again.
