Proud Fijian rugby player Nemani Nadolo has spoken of the sadness and despair he felt at witnessing the destruction caused to his homeland by Cyclone Winston.
The giant wing returned to Fiji during the Crusaders recent bye week to lend his support and help with aid work in some of the more damaged areas.
Nadolo says seeing the damage up close has put what seemed like problems in his life in to perspective but he was surprised how happy and resilient the people were.
“To see first hand…man there were days there I just couldn’t stop crying,” said Nadolo.
Part of Nadolo’s trip was to decide on how best to distribute the relief money he and the Crusaders had raised in weeks after Cyclone Winston.
“We want to get some school books for the children over, there were some schools that were badly hit and it will take a while before they get reached and I really want to get stuff for the school children, school bags lunch boxes and stuff like that,” he told One News’ George Berry.
Nadolo’s try celebration on Saturday against the Kings where he symbolised a ‘W’ was for the children back home who survived Cyclone Winston.
