The Nabouwalu Road in Tabia, Labasa is closed to all traffic until further notice.
Fiji Roads Authority Acting Chief Executive Officer Rory Garland says there was substantial rain overnight which has opened up a large slip at Nabouwalu Road about half way between Labasa and the Transinsular turn-off.
He said a detour has been set up for Nabouwalu Road that diverts traffic around the slip via Tabia Naduri Road.
This detour will remain in place until the slip is secure and remedial works undertaken to create a single lane bypass around the slip.
Garland said the Nabouwalu Road now needs an urgent and detailed investigation from their expert engineers
