The New Zealand cricketer Martin Guptill’s much anticipated IPL debut ended almost as quickly as it began with the Black Caps opener out for two.
Guptill faced just four balls as the Mumbai Indians scored 142-6 off their 20 overs against the Hyderabad Sunrisers.
The home side then reached the victory target with more than two overs to spare as Hyderabad’s Australian opener David Warner scored an unbeaten 90 off just 59 balls.
Black Caps seamer Tim Southee took three wickets for defending champions Mumbai but couldn’t stop the Sunrisers claiming their first win of the season.
It was Mumbai’s third loss in four matches, with bot sides sitting near the foot of the IPL table.
