Climate change and its impact on health is also a contributing factor towards the prevalence of communicable diseases.
This is especially with mosquito borne diseases such as Dengue, Chikungunya and Zika.
This will be part of the discussions at the 69th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland which the Minister for Health Jone Usamate will be attending from next Monday.
The Assembly will discuss issues such as Non-Communicable diseases, promoting health through the life course, preparedness, surveillance and response and communicable diseases.
Usamate said these topics that will be discussed on a global platform are quite relevant to Fiji and the Pacific.
NCDs he said remain the number one contributor to deaths in Fiji and a growing concern as the Health Ministry continues to lobby for a behavior change in lifestyle choices.
The Health Minister says Fiji has just experienced a category 5 Cyclone and as a Pacific Island Country, strengthening and understanding preparedness and resilience to climate change is important especially as climate change is linked to health.
