Fiji Police Force hopes to add new dimensions to its security arrangements in future.
The Force, after a successful operation during the Super Rugby Clash between the Chiefs and Crusaders, hopes to utilize drones more often not only in major events but in general safe keeping of communities.
It’s all about taking Fiji Police Force’s surveillance of communities to another height.
Drones proved to be an effective tool for the Force to keep an eye on the movement of people during one of the major sporting events.
“Definitely yes, the Commissioner of Police has already stated that and it is one of the future technological equipment that we will either be purchasing and work with the local industries that can supply us the drone service. We just have to work with them,” said the Chief Operations Officer, ACP Rusiate Tudravu.
ACP Tudravu says this will enable the Force to monitor the communities and respond to any calls in an effective manner.
“Looking at the operations, it is an eye opener for us on things that we normally hear. We introduced it and saw how effective it was. I think that is the way forward for the Fiji Police”
However involving such technology in its operations may not come that easy.
” We have to have authority from the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji. We have out people who work closely with these companies. As we go, capacity building will also come into place”
This will surely be extra eyes and ears for the Force while ensuring our communities are crime free.
