A loan of 85 million dollars taken by the previous government from the Exim Bank of India has been labelled by the Prime Minister of Fiji Voreqe Bainimarama as a waste.
While speaking to sugarcane farmers in the North, Bainimarama said they felt the effects of that money being wasted but are doing all they can to assist.
“only to find out that only 50% of the mill parts work and out of that it would only work 50% of the time so it’s practically money thrown in the sea so we had to direct additional resources to save those Mills and make them more efficient.” said the Prime Minister.
Bainimarama has also assured cane farmers that they are doing all they can to secure their livelihood when it comes to the renewal of cane farming leases.
“there’s been alot of talk about not enough being done to the sugarcane industry especially in the wake of the 2 new bills that are now before the standing committee of Parliament certain opposition and former politicians have been spreading misinformation about what is in these two bills.” said Bainimarama.
