Drop in overall crime rate

Fiji-Police-emblem_300x2001The Fiji Police Force has recorded a reduction in the overall crime rate as they enter into the second half of 2016.

Speaking during a press conference this morning, Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho states that compared to last year, overall crime decreased by six percent.

The Fiji Police Force is bench-marked against 8 key performance indicators and during the period of January to June 2016, seven of the key performance indicators recorded decreases.

With the overall crime rate already down, road fatalities which is also a major concern for police recorded a reduction of 23 percent.

However speeding once again topped the list as the main cause of fatal accidents with 15 of the 24 lives lost on our roads during the last 6 months due to speeding.

Another area which the Fiji Police continues to work on is the reduction in crime against women and children.

A worrying trend police has noticed is the age group of people committing crimes.

The Fiji Police Force has also sent a strong warning to the public.
