television-studio-fijiThe Walesi Digital platform is still going through trial runs with future developments still being looked at.

Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum also says infrastructure sharing is needed.

On the recently launched Walesi Digital platform all channels are being broadcast using FBC transmitters.

Part of a public trial over the next three months will also help identify problems.

“No no its not necessarily as you know that we have spoken about infrastructure sharing it’s not a question of redundancy it’s a question of how best we use your resources in many countries for example as we highlighted you have only one tower and from that tower you can have many transmitters’ not just TV stations but also phone companies..in our case it’s Vodafone, Telecommunications Fiji Ltd (TFL), and Digicel as well as radio stations. So infrastructure sharing is the way forward because a TV station, a radio station, or telecom company should not be spending a lot of their money on infrastructure costs. We need them to spend more money on services.” said Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum.

In the long term, other issues will also be finialised.

“they not paying anything at the moment this is a test period, there’s obviously glitches here and there that people may encounter. The whole idea is for the next three months to clean that up, then we’ll be able to talk to the TV stations, similarly all the channel allocation. The Walesi will determine which channel goes for the TV companies.” said Sayed Khaiyum

Trial runs for the Western Division will be done later this year.

“Walesi is an independent company I know where you coming from see you really need to get off your whole conspiracy theory Walesi is a 100% government owned station and the fact of the mater is that Walesi is spending most of the money in respect to putting up all this infrastructure and as we said infrastructure sharing is the way forward in respect of various other areas whilst you are concerned about the politics we are actually concerned about getting services to everybody.” added the Acting Prime Minister.

100 percent coverage is what the Walesi team is looking at after trial runs are completed.
