The Fiji Rugby Union is working with all stakeholders in trying to keep Fiji 7s coach, Ben Ryan.
The Fiji Sports Commission has revealed that Fiji Rugby Union has written to them showing their intention in keep Ben Ryan.
This despite Minister for Sports Laisenia Tuuitubou’s comments in the media that Fiji cannot afford to pay Ryan to remain a coach here.
“They had presented a Letter of Intent to carry on with Ben. But then we have to respect Ben, it’s going to be up to them if he wishes to do, personally I hope he stays on, I mean he’s done great things and he’s actually a good friend as well,” said Peter Mazey – Chairman – Fiji Sports Commission.
Mazey added that any financial assistance for Fiji Rugby Union will have to meet government’s funding criteria.
“That will be up to Fiji Rugby Union. So we just have to wait and see what they decide. We will assist them with whatever they do but the current funding is really to specify with international coach, we’ll just wait and see.”¤
Meanwhile, Ryan has publicly stated that he intends to take a break before deciding his future.
