EU raises concern on arrests & detention

 The European Union has raised concern on the series of recent arrests and detention of political, trade union and civil society leaders.

In a statement, the EU delegation has urged authorities to ensure full respect for freedom of speech and freedom of assembly in the country.

The EU says their position is in agreement with the EU Heads of Mission in Fiji, which includes France and the UK.

SODELPA party leader Sitiveni Rabuka, NFP party leader Biman Prasad, FLP Leader Mahendra Chaudhry,  Trade unionist Attar Singh and Dr Tupeni Baba were all arrested and interviewed by Police over the weekend.

They were all part of the Panel Discussions which was organized by Pacific Dialogue.
