Opposition SODELPA parliamentarians who attended the Opening of Parliament today wore ” black ribbons “.
In a statement from the Opposition leader, Ro Temumu Kepa says the MPs decided to wear black ribbons to express their concern on the continued efforts to silence any noise of dissent.
Kepa said they are concerned with the suspension of two Opposition Members, changing of the Parliamentary Standing Orders and the removal of Dr. Biman Prasad as Chair of the Public Accounts Committee.
She adds, SODELPA is also concerned with the lack of any amendment or improvement to those decrees particularly with the Attorney General remaining as the Minister for Elections while being the Secretary General of the Fiji First political party.
The Opposition Leader says they will continue in their effort to uphold democratic principles in their role as the Opposition.
