The Australian government has opened the tenders for the re-construction of 12 schools that were destroyed during Tropical Cyclone Winston.
These schools are in Ra and Koro.
Tender documents have been released today – almost one month after an announcement by Australia’s Minister for International Development and the Pacific, Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells.
The tender documents reveal all buildings will be built according to Fiji’s national building code and will be overseen by a committee made up of senior officers from the Australian and Fijian Government.
The rebuilding work will be implemented through the Australian Government’s Access to Quality Education Programme, AQEP.
The school rebuilding programme will be funded through Australia’s 53 million dollar package.
Schools covered in this tender are Koro High School, Barotu Primary, Bayly Memorial Primary, Bucalevu Primary, Bureiwai District, Liwativale Primary, Madhuvani Primary, Namuaniwaqa Village, Naroko Primary, Nasau District, Navunibitu Catholic, Tokaimalo District and Vatukacevaceva Village School.
