The government from today will be awarding tenders to the construction companies to rebuild schools that were damaged by Tropical Cyclone Winston.
Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz-Sayed-Khaiyum says works on rebuilding damaged schools is a priority for the government and construction works will intensify in coming weeks.
The focus is to ensure we get a lot of school out of the way and constructed by the beginning of the first term of next year. Of course not all schools which are badly damaged will be completed before the school term begins, but the fact is all the schools will be built back better.
Tenders will be awarded to companies to reconstruct the remaining 41 schools in next two weeks.
The government says professionals are overseeing the operations carried out by the contractors.
Fiji Institute of Engineers has also been roped in to assist in the reconstruction works.
