Those caught fishing illegally could soon find themselves in hot water.
Government is looking at more stringent measures to curb the issue and will rope in the assistance of police.
“I think illegal fishing has been happening for quite some time we are aware of it but we have just began to work on try and monitor and petrol the local fishing areas.” said Minister for Fisheries, Semi Koroilavesau
The public is being urged to secure proper fishing licenses.
“All fishermen in Fiji they know that to be able to do fishing commercially they need to have a license we are working on that we carrying out active patrols now.” added Koroilavesau.
