The Fiji Corrections Service is now seeking the assistance of the Ministry of Justice to help them fight the issue of over crowding in it’s facilities to cater for inmates.
Corrections Corrections Francis Kean says with the limited resources they are trying to manage the spill over.
There are two types of prisoners, you have convicts and those under remand, for our convicts the capacity is 1136 and at the moment we have 1423, there is a bit of overcrowding, we are managing it well, with the resources we currently have, we are talking and doing a lot of liaison with the ministry of Justice and also with the Fiji Police Force.
To tackle this issue head on, the commissioner is suggesting, alternative sentencing for criminals.
