screen-shot-2016-10-09-at-4-03-06-pmFarmers have produced more than 400 thousand tones of ginger so far this year.

Deputy Secretary Agriculture Development, Uraia Waibuta says ginger is a thriving industry.

Gingers farms were spared by Tropical Cyclone Winston.

“We are into the planting season now and the Ministry is carrying out all its effort  on how well it can assist farmers. This is in the supply of planting material, land preparation or distribution of agro inputs and sharing cost,” Waibuta said.

Waibuta says ginger is an import commodity for the Ministry.

There has also been lot of interests from farmers.

“Now we are trying to encourage farmers to slow down a little because we don’t want them to oversupply in next year’s production. Everybody is moving out of dalo farming and moving into ginger farms. We still have few matured crops on the ground that farmers are waiting to sell which shows that we are able to meet what is required in the market”
