The Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama last night said that everyone living in Fiji is safe and will be protected under the constitution of Fiji.

He made the comments while speaking in Ovalau.

Bainimarama said the political upheaval of 2000 and 2006 was the main reason he took over government to try and build a better Fiji for all Fijians.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama once again reminding the itaukei community that their rights are intact and safe under the constitution.

“The constitution protects the rights of the itaukei, your land is secure, the Fijian culture is intact and it helps build the GDP of the country,” said Bainimarama.

The PM warning people should not be moved by what he said was all the political talks happening around them.

“I want to make it clear that I was part of the committee that reviewed the constitution and all this talk that you hear from political parties are all lies,” said Bainimarama.

Bainimarama reminded them that those who choose to break the law will be taken to task, as in the recent sedition cases.

“While in Tavua last week, I told them to be careful of what you hear and how it can create instability. We should make our own decisions, for the better, and not breach the law,” said Bainimarama.

He even reassured the people of Ovalau that there will be no more civil unrest.

“When I was in the military we saw what caused the upheaval in 2000 and 2006 that led to lives being lost, and I want to tell you, the people of Ovalau that those incidences will never happen again,” said Bainimarama.

The Prime Minister ended his official visit in Ovalau today.
