The 2013 constitution came under scrutiny in today’s parliament session.
Opposition MP Salote Radrodro while speaking on the President’s address to Parliament raised concern on the formulation of the constitution.
She also questioned the new constitution public holiday.
” The government is at the same time calling for a constitution day to celebrate the 2013 constitution. Honorable Deputy Speaker, how can we expect the people to celebrate the 2013 Constitution and make meaning out of it when they were never part of its conception process and its birth” said Radrodro
Meanwhile Government MP Netani Rika in his speech said the holiday would allow people to uphold the 2013 constitution.
” To acknowledge our return to democracy our celebration must include educational programs for all Fijians, it would demand a well thought out and planned celebration which would bring about positive impacts to our nation” said Rika
