Fiji honoured for progress towards MDGs

Ratu Inoke Receives Award 2Fiji has been recognized for progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals.

The South-South Gala Event honoured Fiji for it’s efforts in eradicating extreme poverty and hunger – one of the 8 MDGs.

According to MDG indicators, extreme poverty has dropped 80 percent in Fiji  while hunger stands at 5 percent.

Under these indicators, Fiji is rated as a low hunger state.

The South-South Awards is a high-level gala event highlighting contributions by governments, the United Nations, private sector and civil society towards the advancement of the Millennium Development Goals and sustainable development across the global South.

Foreign Affairs Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola received the award on behalf of Fiji.

” This award is particularly important as we recognize the adoption of the 2030 agenda of sustainable development and the 70th anniversary of the United Nations. We recognize the importance of drawing lessons from the MDGs and building on the successes to ensure that the sustainable development agenda brings about meaningful change to our countries and people,” says Kubuabola
