There have been 4,634 calls made so far this year to the Child Helpline.
Of this, just over 400 calls were genuine pleas for assistance.
The helpline is outsourced by Medical Services Pacific and genuine cases are referred to relevant agencies.
“Cases of physical abuse, emotional abuse and seeking advice on issues such as teenage pregnancies, peer pressure, peer and relationship, family issues, domestic violence,” said the minister for women and children, Rosy Akbar.
Stakeholders are pleading with the public to NOT misuse the child helpline.
Currently a 12 hour initiative, stakeholders say the helpline is a great way to curb social issues faced by women and children.
“For every child in the country be aware of the fact that if they dial 1325 whether using Vodafone, Digicel or a telephone line answer would be given to any request for advice and assistance and we want the public who are aware of this to take it to other community members. Parents, women and children and so far word has been going out we have received calls as far as Rotuma,” Akbar added.
