The Minister of Education Dr Mahendra Reddy said they are working with the Universities on improving quality of their programmes.
Dr Reddy said universities are falling short in terms of providing quality output.
He said they have been receiving feedback from the industries on the quality of graduates.
“We’re talking to them, we’re showing them the output that they’ve produced. The industries are questioning now and before the universities lose their brand name, we need to step in and talk to them. Competition resulted in a race to the bottom, we want collaboration, we want them to offer joint degrees where possible rather than competing and running in a race to the bottom that’s not acceptable.There’s certain areas that joint degrees could lead to better product. It’s happening in other universities in other countries, it can happen here too “
