35 peace corp volunteers will now work in rural communities helping youth deal with adolescent issues.
Minister for Youth and Sport Laisenia Tuitubou said aside from unwanted pregnancies the group will work on other positive life skills.
“The youth in Fiji to live and develop a productive life and avoid potential risks and challenges they may face such as unwanted pregnancies,drugs,alcohol abuse and suicide ” said Tuitobou
The volunteers undertook a 9 week pre-service training in 6 communities in Tailevu North.
As volunteers the group will now work as Youth development coordinators in communities across the country.
They will serve for a number of 2 years.
” As you are sent into your respective schools,training centers and communities as youth development coordinators.I am sure your knowledge and skills that are fully passed because youth in Fiji have a lot of energy and a lot of potential ” said Tuitubou
