The physical assault on an elderly woman in Nadi is now at the center of a police investigation.
The assault was captured on camera by her neighbour who is also her grandson.
The footage of the 86-year-old Seema Chalam Reddy assaulted by a woman was taken by Shavikash Reddy in Nasau, Nadi and uploaded on Facebook.
It has since come under the investigation of police after the elderly woman was taken to the police station for assistance.
While details of what led to this assault isn’t clear, what is apparent is the elderly woman was assaulted.
Today, 86-year-old Seema Chalam Reddy is safely at the house of her grand-son, Reddy.
Reddy took this footage from his own house and today we asked him why he didn’t interfere.
“The reason is that lady has taken out a DVRO (Domestic Violence Restraint Order) against us so we can’t go near their place. So we can’t stop anything from happening, so the reason is if we go there, there might be a problem as well,” said her grandson, Shavikash Reddy.
Reddy says his grandmother has age related memory loss and cant recall details of what happens to her.
He adds, he had to take this footage in order to lodge a Police report.
“We are taking this matter very seriously and we hope to put justice to our grandmother because we had put her there, thinking she was in very safe hands but what has happened is not right, not right at all,” Reddy said.
The video has watched more than 25,000 times within 10 hours of being uploaded on Facebook.
Nadi police are investigating the matter.
