pearlsFiji netball Head Coach, Kate Carpenter, has taken a mixture of experienced and players who will also be making their debut as the Netball World Cup begins on Friday.

Of the total 63 matches they have played, Fiji have won 30 and lost 33, giving them a World Cup winning percentage of 48 percent.

“We’ve got a balanced side that means four players in each position, circle defence, centre court and shooters. And I think it’s really important that you have a range of athletes, different types of athletes who don’t want to look to the bench and you have the same type of athletes to cone on to make an impact.”
“Seven of the athletes have been to a World Cup before, Mere and Tila have been to four so that’s a huge achievement,” said Kate Carpenter – Fiji Pearls Coach.

Grouped in pool D alongside Wales, Uganda and Zambia, Fiji will start their campaign as the top-ranked side in their pool. .

“It’s a pressure situation in the World Cup, often you don’t know a lot about the teams you have to assess in the actual match and it’s hard going and also it’s important for athletes to understand that I think we probably at our best when we playing at home in Fiji but we have to get athletes that compete overseas in a different environment, one that’s challenging.”
