Squatter upgrading continues

Under the Participatory Settlements Upgrading Program they will look to mobilizing resources to provide housing upgrades for people living in these areas.

They have targeted squatters in some places around the country.

“We have been able to look at 3 different towns Nadi, Lautoka and the greater Suva area and what we are trying to do is we are trying to build squatter upgrade solutions to people who can design solutions make those squatter communities resilient to weather climate changes resilient to socioeconomic changes so we would like to have squatter settlements that are resilient and fully self sustainable. ” said Joshua Wycliffe Permanent Secretary Local Government, Housing

“One of the goals is that we ensure globally 100 million people are provided with decent access to shelter with access to water and better requirements for human living conditions so we draw that down here we would like to have similar targets for Fiji in 2020 provide decent living conditions for squatter upgrades. “
