Which means from next week, viewers within the Lami to Nausori corridor will be able to access the service via a set-top box.
This is after the Walesi platform was launched today which delivers high quality digital content from Fiji’s broadcasters directly to your home.
The 3 free to air television stations in the country will soon be running a total of 5 channels.
Telelevision stations through the Walesi Channel Lottery draw by the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama now have their allocated new channels on the platform.
Fiji TV and FBC will both have two channels while Mai TV has 1 channel under the Walesi Platform.
Through the digital television service, more sharper, clear digital quality television pictures and better sound is expected.
From Monday , the large scale public trial of digital television begins from the Lami to Nausori corridor.
Later in the year, the service will be provided nationally.
To access the digital television platform, people will need a set top box available at retailers for a maximum price of $99.95.
People also need a UHF antenna to watch Digital TV.
Government will ensure that all Fijians will have access to digital TV by allocating $2 million to provide low income households with free set top boxes.
Currently, the country’s television networks are ALL broadcasting on analogue.
While the digital service is now available from next week for central viewers, it’s now up to the television stations to launch their new channels on the Walesi platform.
