electionPolitical parties have met with the Fijian Elections Office to discuss preparations towards the 2018 General Elections.

Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem says political parties have until early next month to submit their comments on the polling venues.

Discussions with political parties and the Elections Offices has now begun.

With less than 24 months to go, the Elections Office is hoping to iron out all issues before the country heads to the polls.

” Since we are 2 years away from 2018 we are in a position to allow for a lot of consultation with all relevant stakeholders in terms of our allocation of venues about the next General Election in that regard the FEO held a informal session with the political parties and last week we had 21 participants from 6 political parties only 1 did not attend we took them through how to give us their views and comments regarding each venue that we have” said Saneem

With more than 1000 proposed polling venues for 2018, the challenge now for political parties are to familiarise themselves and get their campaign off the ground.

” As you know we have proposed about 306 new venues we will be looking forward to the feedback before we can make an assessment on how many actually to include” said Saneem

Political parties have a month to submit their comments on the proposed polling venues to the Elections office.

” Well the first step was to release the polling venues we have done so we are now looking at an contingent exercise with all out stakeholders after the 1 month of responses from the survey in our websites we will inform the technical committee going to them to evaluate all the submission as of 2016″

Another provisional list for polling venues will be published after September.
