The second phase of the project is nearing completion with a combined investment of 16 million dollars.

The whole of the Jittu Squatters Settlement will be developed to a Housing project.

Already the first phase of the development has cost government 7 million dollars.

Now with an additional $9 million dollars, the second phase of the Lagilagi project is expected to be completed before the end of this year.

” Hopefully when all of Jittu is done we will have 900 to 1000 units, 2 bedroom and 3 bedroom units probably it will be a 10 year project because we are moving slowly but the plans to develop whole of Jittu and that means we will be able take in residential of Jittu but also other squatter settlement near by” said Father Barr

These units will be home to over 1000 households who have been living in squatter settlements all their lives.

PCN is working close with government to deliver this project on time and ensure families move into their homes well before 2017.

” But they a few hold ups, because of the weather and also now because of the lack of cement and blocks so it is holding our builders but by mid November we should know the next 76 units”

Certain criteria has been put in place for those who will own a home here.

They should earn below the income threshold of $16,000 or less before they qualify.

” Our first priority we got a number of criteria for people entering in to the house so it is primarily for those living in the Jittu area government has also want to take people from other squatters settlement like Wailea and so on”said Father Barr
