The National Federation Party Leader Dr.Biman Prasad says municipal council staff should not be blamed for the the quality of service in their municipalities.
This follows calls made last week for an inquiry into municipalities.
The minister for local government seems to have got into the habit of telling everybody off town council administrators, workers yet this is the same minister who in his maiden speech promised to have local get elections, now he is talking about an inquiry by the government, who controls the councils? its the government which has been in total control of the council through its appointment of of administrators.
At a Local Government forum last week, line Minister Praveen Kumar said there were too many bosses but no workers at the municipal council level to carry out capital projects.
Prasad says if the work is not done by town councils, the responsibility lies squally on the minister and government.
The best way to improve the services offered by councils is to have elections, because the people can then demand services from the council.
Numerous attempts to obtain a comment from the Minister Praveen Kumar on the issue remain futile.
