The Opposition leader has welcomed the decision made by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama not to change the national flag.
Retaining the national flag has always been pushed by the SODELPA Youth and the announcement made by the Prime Minister has been highly praised.
“It’s good to see the PM acting like the statesman we want to see and that is in regards to listening and considering the wishes of the people and they have shown this ever since he made that announcement about the flag change people have come out and shown us by their actions that they want to retain the flag and we have seen that all over the country. ” said Opposition leader Ro Teimumu Kepa.
For the National Federation Party, the announcement does not come as a surprise.
“The PM should stop giving excuses the message is loud and clear it was always clear right from the beginning that the people of this country did not want a change in the flag majority of them at least and I’m glad that is now clear to the Fiji First government and the PM so the issue is he should stop giving any more excuses abandoned the whole process and the idea of a flag change and if in future people do come up with the idea of a flag change than that idea should be put to the people in a national referendum.” said NFP leader Biman Prasad.
The Fiji Labour Party in a statement says the Prime Minister’s announcement to reverse the decision to change the Fiji flag is a triumph of the will of the people.
