It was a Eid Celebration with a difference yesterday at Vatukarasa village in Nadroga.
Minister for Health and Medical Services, Rosy Akbar was joined by Minister for Agriculture, Inia Seruiratu to officiate at the Vatukarasa Islamic Centre – Eid Celebrations.
It was a unique celebration where for the first time an Islamic celebration was held in the main grounds of an I-taukei village – something the Vatukarasa villagers have been doing for more than 100 years.
Seruiratu said many Fijians travel past the village but never understand the rich history and unique diversity that exists there.
He adds that Vatukarasa will forever be in their minds when they talk about cultural diversity and living in harmony.
