Discussions are underway with relevant national level indicators to assist government to monitor the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal on Education.
This is to allow various stakeholders to engage and assist in progressing on SDG4.
A spotlight is focused on the country achievements on Sustainable Development Goal 4 on Education.
Speaker of Parliment, Dr Jiko Luveni challenged those who were present in this dialogue to make SDG 4 affordable to everyone.
” The SDG’s are not simply goals of government or policy makers of international organisation they are goals that affect all of us individual and communities this we need to take greater interest in them and express some ownership and I therefore encourage more of this forum we should not only be looking at SDG’s implementation and monitoring but also get people like social workers, teachers, educators and ordinary citizens to understand what the SDG’s are and the principals behind the 2013 agenda for sustainable development”
Dr Luveni says the government is committed to working with all stakeholders in making changes to education policies.
” Well parliament is the one that review and passes law for the country the SDG’s and target requires action by government and stakeholders which often require legislative and policy forum and parliament is a key institution in this process the inter parliamentarian global organisation of national parliament notes that to be successful the 2013 agenda requires engaged and committed parliament in order to to able government to act”
The Speaker of Parliament calling on all those who were part of this Forum to put Education as their number one priority in their areas of work.
” So this is why the parliament need to take active part in the progress of the SDG’s, Not only focusing in spefic SDG’s the Fiji parliament is doing its part in trying to make it a national priorities
