The Ministry of I-Taukei Affairs is now working closely with all provincial councils to fill the vacant chiefly titles in most villages and district in the country.
Permanent Secretary, Neipote Katonitabua said that this is a big concern to the i-taukei people as over 70 positions remain vacant.
” We’ll we have noted that there is a lot of vacant titles in the vanua this is the e 6th provincial council meeting that we have we have found that more than 70 percent vacant chiefly title in the vanua you dealing with the Turaga ni Yavusa, Turaga ni Mataqali and without the good leadership the vanua structure we found that there is no unity among the families and there is no visionary leadership for the village setting to aspire with the development we are facing now”
The Ministry has also identified areas that need to be addressed with the i-Taukei people.
” We have change our vision for the Ministry and the board with the new vision of prosperous vanua for a better Fiji we found and noted that without a good social structure in the vanua it might dampen the spirit of development in what government is doing so with good leadership structure and commitment leaders in the vanua we can make wise decision in the vanua”
