The Education Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy said the the three students who committed suicide in Vatuwaqa had problems at home.
He said this is contained in a ministry investigative report that has been presented to the Prime Minister.
The three MGM Primary School students drank paraquat on Monday last week and passed away a day apart from Wednesday.
The Ministry of Educations investigative report into the suicidal death of the three students is now complete and handed over to the Prime Minister.
The Education Minister has said their investigations show the children had problems at home.
“The case was that there was issues with the children in the domestic front which caused those children to commit that particular act,” said Dr Mahendra Reddy (Education Minister)
The report clearly establishes that the cause of the three committing the act was not due to challenges faced in school.
“If we would have found out that the problem was our school system which some people said earlier on, then we would have looked at our school system, and said hey teachers and head teachers what did you do in the result of the student committing suicide but that was not the case,” Dr Reddy.
Dr Reddy said this case had to be brought to the attention of the Prime Minister.
“If there is something that happens it’s our responsibility as the line manager to up-date our Prime Minister about what happened, and that’s what we do, and that’s what I said is that look we are bothered, we are worried about this and because the idea of investigating a particular event is to see, who is responsible and ask those parties to deal with that,” said Dr Reddy.
Dr Reddy had earlier said failing exams wasn’t a reason to end lives.
