Government today launched the National Framework for Digital Literacy for Schools.
A non-profit group, Reach 4 Your Future Foundation will spearhead the project which will be offered to students from Year 1 to 12.
Microsoft and Hewlett Packard are partners.
“This collaborative project will help every Fijian student attain industry recognized skills and certification for the latest Microsoft software by the time they leave secondary school. This skill-set is crucial for young Fijians to have in our technologically driven world, and will produce a competent and capable workforce for our nation,” says Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama.
He adds the project will be trialed in 6 schools initially and introduced to another 1 hundred next year.
“I believe this new program is not only vital for our future economic progress – it also advances us towards bridging the digital divide that exists in society. Some of our isolated, rural and maritime communities do not have enough access to the new culture of technology. We cannot allow one’s circumstances or location to determine their level of digital literacy or experience with technology. These skills are simply essential; and we cannot afford to allow any Fijian to fall through the cracks.”
