The Fiji Corrections Service today launched the countdown to the annual Yellow Ribbon Walk.
This year’s event is special because it marks the Program’s 10th year anniversary.
Walking the Talk with the ex-offenders is not an easy task for the members of the Fiji Corrections Service.
10 year’s down the Line the Force will this year try to advocate in to getting the family members of the ex-offenders be the front runners of the whole event.’
“The Walk on October 21st is an awareness campaign to boost and inspire the community to play their part in the rehabilitation process. We cannot do it alone, they must be given a chance to rebuild their lives. The event is expected to host around 1,000 participants from the corporate sector, civil service, schools in the Suva area, members of the disciplined forces, NGO’s and there is also a special part of the Walk that us dedicated to our senior citizens,” said Elenani Vuru – Yellow Ribbon Program Director.
The public is also advised that the day will also be a special one for inmates as they will have the opportunity to showcase to their families and Fiji as a whole the skills they have acquired during rehabilitation process.
“We are also proud to announce that we will be showcasing our Special Business Units at the event which are basically our tailoring units, carpentry and farming units and each will be learned for the business units and each will be showcasing and selling their products on the day.”
15 days remain for the walk and while senior citizens have also been invited the Walk also signifies the new approach the Service is undertaking with the Yellow Ribbon Program.
“This year’s event is special because it marks the 10th anniversary since the program was launched in Fiji. This year we reflect on what we have achieved in the past and what we have to change to improve the program so that we can successfully rehabilitate and introduce our ex-offenders back into Civil Society.”
The Yellow Ribbon Walk is scheduled from 6am on October 21sr to start and end at Albert Park in Suva.
