The Fiji Roads Authority walks away with the largest chunk today.
A whooping $635 million has been allocated to the Authority.
Although this represents a decrease of $18 million compared to the last budget, FRA is confident current and upcoming road works will not be affected.
The Fiji Roads Authority is confident that despite the decrease in their budget next year it will not affect any of their current plans.
CEO, Neil Cook says his team will continue to deliver the services that government has entrusted to them.
“It’s signals another huge year of work for me and my team I am certainly satisfied to government for their continuing investment in this infrastructure and on our roads and all the people at FRA are looking forward to continue to contribute to Fiji’s government,” Cook highlighted.
With plans for the new Suva and Nadi four-lane highway in next year’s budget, Cook says one of the biggest obstacle they face is dealing with lands where roads will be constructed.
“What we are talking about there is what the Minister of Finance is talking about is the delays in the capital project due to land issues not been resolved before construction starts that is going to be critical. What we would be expect in 2016 is to see a plan take shape for this roads and may be delivered in periods in number of years it is not something that is likely to be delivered all at once,” revealed Cook.
He adds the Coral Coast is one of those areas that will need a lot of consideration before any work will be carried out.
“So we will see things like piece or sections coming together You can expect though that in the Coral Coast area there is 15 to 20 kilometers of winding roads it is going to need careful consideration now that it will not affect the communities and environment,” he added.
$79 million will be allocated for maintenance of roads around the country while $50 million for maintenance of rural roads.
